Summary
Sunil Gavaskar describes some interesting happenings in his life. He would never have become a cricketer if his uncle Narayan Masurekar had not come into his life. Narayan Masurekar came to see the baby (Sunil Gavaskar) in the hospital on his first day. He noticed a little hole near his left ear lobe. Next day he came again. He discovered that the hole was missing. After a quick search, the baby (Sunil Gavaskar) was found near a fisherwoman. If Nan Kaka (Narayan Masurekar) had not found him, he would have become an unknown fisherman.
Sunil Gavaskar describes the days he played cricket with his mother. She encouraged him even when she was hit on the nose with the ball. Gavaskar says cricket is in his blood. He had a cricketing mother. His father was a good club cricketer. His father had given him some valuable advice. His uncle Madhav Mantri was also a cricketer. He had played test matches for India. Gvasakar liked his uncle's Indian test pullovers (jersey). He asked his uncle if he could take one. His uncle advised him that he had to work hard to wear the pullovers. His uncle told him that there was no short-cut to the top.
Gavaskar always wanted to be a batsman. In his childhood whenever he got out, he would walk away with the bat and ball. The other boys would call him names. They played for trophies which they bought for Rs.1.50
