Summary
There are many clean energy sources . They include the sun (solar), the wind, the tides (tidal), water (hydro), and biogas. India has the world's only Ministry for Renewable Energy Sources. India is also the world's fifth largest producer of wind energy.
Wind can be used to generate electricity. A generator converts the mechanical power into electricity. Wind has been used to move ships, grind grain and pump water since ancient times. Windmills are used to produce electricity in many western countries like the US, Netherlands, Denmark, etc.
In India, Tamil Nadu is a leader in winder energy. nearly half of the India's 2000 MW capacity comes from Tamil Nadu. Studies regarding wind energy is conducted at the Centre for Wind Energy Technology. Wind energy is used in many parts of the country, like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtara, etc.
Wind energy is free, clean and renewable. Windmills do not cause any pollution. However, some people are concerned about the noise. Some also complain that birds may fly into rotor blades. These problems do not exist in India because in India windmills are located in remote areas.
Wind power has a demerit. Wind does not always blow when we need electricity. Wind is the fastest growing source of energy in the world.
